Our Story

In January 2025, Tammie Pontsler taught a 6-week class on how to make pajama bottoms. Two of her students, Lynn and Andi, fell in love with garment sewing, and decided to learn as much as they could. The three women bonded over their passion for creating wearable fiber arts.

This new connection came during a pivotal moment. Within months, the closure of Jo-Ann Fabrics and near-loss of a major pattern company revealed how fragile the creative ecosystem had become. Rather than mourn what was lost, they chose to build something new – Grand Sewcial. They reached out to other apparel-making professionals and enthusiasts to invite them to join the mission and provide leadership.  The response was very positive, and Grand Sewcial began its journey to bring the garment sewing community in West Michigan together.

Grand Sewcial is seeking 501(c)(3) status to become a non-profit organization.
